Welcome to The Space Between, a blog where I share reflections, real-life stories, and mindset shifts to help you navigate life transitions, reclaim your energy, and step into your next chapter with clarity and confidence.
There’s a story I tell often so often, in fact, my kids could probably recite it better than I can. But it’s stayed with me because it reminds me just how much your energy, presence, and daily choices matter in both life and work.
Let me take you back.
In the beginning of my career, I was brand new in my management role, working in a network of court buildings. Each morning, I’d make my rounds and walk through a long tunnel that connected the old section of the building to the new. And every day, I passed the same tall man with a big beard. I didn’t know who he was. He could’ve been an attorney, a plaintiff, defendant, a court employee really, anyone.
But I always smiled and said hello. And he returned the greeting.
I didn’t think much of it at the time. It wasn’t a strategy. It was just how I tried to show up each day: to be kind, and acknowledge people.
A few months later, I was up for a promotion to supervise a high-volume law division. I was young, inexperienced, and many questioned whether I was ready. When I walked into the judge’s chambers for the interview, guess who was sitting behind the desk?
The man from the tunnel.
He smiled. I smiled. And in that moment, I realized: those small, daily interactions had built a relationship before I even knew I needed one.
Two Lessons That Still Guide Me
1. People feel your energy before they hear your words.
As a real estate agent and a coach, I’ve walked into client meetings completely drained and it showed. The appointment felt flat. There was no spark. Honestly, I wouldn’t have hired me either.

But when I show up present, energized, and rooted in service? Everything changes. People open up. They feel safe, heard, and supported. That’s when transformation begins.
2. Relationships are built when no one is watching.
Not just in the big moments, but in the everyday interactions the quick check-in, the thoughtful message, the quiet consistency. These moments are the foundation of trust and opportunity.
