Own Your Next Chapter
A Tiny Shift to Spark Your Mid-Life Reinvention
My laptop screen glowed, MLS stats blinking back at me, while my twice-warmed coffee turned stone-cold. Nothing was wrong, yet I felt miles away from the work that once fueled me. The kids were grown, my roles had morphed, and while life marched forward, I had somehow stayed still.
Busy ≠ Fulfilled
I kept showing up: closing deals, juggling calendars, answering emails late into the night.
- Productive: absolutely
- Connected: not even close
- Creativity: muted
- Energy: draining
- Purpose: drifting
Productivity can be a respectable form of avoidance, a socially approved distraction that postpones the harder work of looking inward. Those to-dos were bubble wrap; they cushioned me from uncertainty and muffled the invitation to step beyond what felt safe.
The Tiny Mindset Shift
One question cracked the door open:
What do I want now?
The answer did not arrive as a five-year plan. It whispered a mantra:
Do what you love. If you cannot, find meaning in what you do.
I started collecting sparks: sharing my photos to inspire others in the way the beauty I get to see on walks lifts me, sending encouraging notes, guiding a friend through a challenge and mentoring young agents. Each spark led to the next breadcrumb until a path to reinvention appeared beneath my feet.

- Pause for five quiet minutes. Close the laptop and silence the phone.
- Recall one moment this week that lit you up, even briefly.
- Write a single sentence about why it felt energizing.
- Schedule a repeat. Put that activity, or something similar, on next week’s calendar.
Tiny actions compound. Sparks become breadcrumbs. Breadcrumbs reveal the path.
